New Greenery Sprouting in the Studio
4月17日、THE GOOD CAT SCRATCHのスタジオに、新たな装飾が出来上がりました。
それは、スタジオが植物の力でパッと明るく、まるで別の場所に生まれ変わったような瞬間。瑞々しい緑に囲まれた鏡が、新しいスタジオの「顔」として、訪れる皆さんを優しく迎えてくれるようになりました。
この装飾は、ただの飾りではなく、私たちの想いを形にした大切な「作品」です。完成した空間に身を置くと、自然と背筋が伸びるような、心地よいエネルギーをもらえる気がしています。
On April 17th, a new installation was completed at THE GOOD CAT SCRATCH studio. It was a transformative moment—the studio was instantly brightened by the power of plants, feeling as though it had been reborn into an entirely different place. The mirror, now framed by lush greenery, has become the new “face” of the studio, warmly welcoming everyone who visits.
This installation is more than just a decoration; it is a precious “piece of art” that gives shape to our philosophy. Immersing ourselves in this completed space, we feel a sense of clarity and a boost of revitalizing energy.
この日私たちは、現在ロンドンを拠点に活動するフラワーアーティストのCherie Yip/The Spring Is Here(以後、シェリーさんと表記。） 来日した彼女をゲストに迎え、1人1作品を作る個人制作と、シェリーを中心にスタジオに新たな装飾を作り上げる、フラワーワークショッショップを開催しました。
On this day, we welcomed London-based flower artist Cherie Yip/The Spring Is Here as our guest. We held a special flower workshop that consisted of two parts: individual sessions where each member created their own piece, and a collaborative project led by Cherie to craft a new installation for our studio.

早朝の市場へ
To the Early Morning Market
当日、まだ街が眠る午前4時30分。私たちはシェリーさんと共に世田谷市場へ向かいました。市場を1時間ほど散策しながら、ワークショップに使えそうな植物を選んでいきます。
At 4:30 AM, while the city was still asleep, we headed to the Setagaya Flower Market with Cherie. We spent about an hour wandering through the market, carefully selecting the plants that would bring our workshop to life.

その中でも特別な出会いがありました。空間の骨格となる「枝物」を探す中、ふと出会ったのは凛とした佇まいの桜その日本らしい情緒を感じる枝ぶりを目にした瞬間、シェリーさんのビジョンと私たちの気分がしっくりと重なりました。
Among the many selections, we had one truly special encounter. As we searched for the structural “branch pieces” that would form the backbone of the installation, we happened upon a cherry blossom branch with a dignified presence. The moment we saw its graceful form, which evokes a uniquely Japanese sense of refined emotion, Cherie’s vision and our own intuition fell perfectly into place.

みんなで楽しむ、緑のアート
Enjoying Greenery Together: An Artistic Experience
午後になり、植物で華やかになったスタジオにメンバーが集合。普段はタトゥーアーティストが静かに針とインクに向き合う緊張感のある場所ですが、この日はあちこちから笑い声が飛び交い、いつもとは違う和気藹々とした活気に、スタジオ全体が包まれていました。
In the afternoon, the members gathered in the studio, which had been vibrantly transformed by the plants. Usually, this is a place of quiet tension where tattoo artists focus deeply on their needles and ink, but today, laughter filled the air, and the entire studio was wrapped in a warm and lively atmosphere.

スタジオの準備が進むにつれ、机の上は緑で埋め尽くされます。見慣れた空間が、いつもとは違う、植物で溢れた光景に。みんなの高揚感が最高潮に達したところで、いよいよワークショップの幕が上がります。
As the preparations progressed, the tables became covered in greenery. Our familiar workspace was reimagined into a scene overflowing with nature. With everyone’s excitement reaching its peak, the workshop finally began.

まずは1人１つの作品作りに挑戦。 シェリーさんが丁寧に素材の使い方を教えてくれます。彼女の様子では簡単そうに見えたものの、いざ自分たちで手に取るとその難しさに直面します。 相手は自由奔放な植物たち。思い通りにいかない植物の動きに、「えっ、そっち行っちゃうの？」「ちょっと待って、これどうなれば正解？」と、笑い声が飛び交いました。
普段の仕事では、極限の集中力を注いでいますが、この日はもっと軽やか。手に触れるモスのふかふかした感触を楽しみながら、リラックスしたムードで作業が進んでいきます。
First, we took on the challenge of creating individual pieces.
Cherie kindly guided us on how to handle the materials. Although she made it look effortless, we quickly realized the difficulty once we picked them up ourselves.
We were working with plants—living things with a mind of their own. Laughter filled the room as we struggled with their unpredictable movements, with voices calling out, “Wait, it’s going that way?” and “Hold on, how is this supposed to look?”
While our daily work requires extreme concentration, today was much lighter. We enjoyed the soft, spongy texture of the moss as the session continued in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.
手を動かすうちに、自然と「あ、この角度いいかも」「これ、ここに乗せたら最高じゃない？」と、自由なアイデアが次々と飛び出します。
「それめちゃくちゃかわいい！」「〇〇っぽい！」 互いの作品を覗き込んでは褒め合いながら、インスピレーションを共有し合う。一人でストイックに向き合う普段の制作とは違う、みんなで一つのテーブルを囲む特別な時間となりました。
As we worked, ideas began to flow naturally: “Oh, this angle looks great,” or “Wouldn’t this look perfect right here?”
“That’s so cute!” “It looks just like your style!”
We leaned in to look at each other’s work, exchanging compliments and sharing inspiration. It was a special moment—unlike our usual solitary and stoic creative process, we were all gathered around a single table, creating together.

Moving beyond the individual pieces, we began crafting larger components for the installation.
凛とした、アーティストの姿勢
The Dignified Presence of an Artist
ワークショップを終えた後は、いよいよスタジオの装飾作り、そしてシェリーのアートワークを手伝う大仕事が始まりました。メインは入り口にある大きな鏡を大胆に彩るディスプレイです。
シェリーさんが構図を練る中、私たちは教わったスキルを使い、大小様々なパーツを作り続けていきました。
Once the workshop concluded, the real work began: the studio installation and the major task of assisting Cherie with her artwork. The centerpiece was a bold display designed to frame the large mirror at the entrance.
As Cherie refined the composition, we applied our newly learned skills to continuously produce components of various sizes.

制作中のシェリーさんの姿は、私たちにとってとても良い刺激になりました。膨大なパーツを配置していく圧倒的な集中力、そして細部に宿るプロの視線。アーティストとして一切の妥協を許さない彼女の凛とした佇まいは、同じ表現者として心から「かっこいい」と感じるものでした。
Watching Cherie at work was a profound source of inspiration for us. We were captivated by her immense concentration as she arranged the countless components and the professional eye she brought to every detail. Her dignified presence as an artist—one who refuses to compromise on any aspect of her vision—was something we, as fellow creators, found truly admirable.

表現の枠を越えて
Expanding the Boundaries of Expression
慣れない素材に四苦八苦しながらも、「難しい！」と笑い合いながら試行錯誤した時間は、肌にインクを刻む普段の仕事とはまた違う、新しい刺激に満ちたもの。植物という正解のない素材に触れ、無心になって形を作っていく。そんな、いつもとは違うクリエイティブな体験ができたことに、メンバー全員が心から喜びを感じた、実りある一日となりました。
この瑞々しい感性を大切に、THE GOOD CAT SCRATCHはこれからも新しい表現に挑戦し続けていきます。
後編の記事では新しくなったスタジオの様子を、THE GOOD CAT SCRATCHが大切にしている想いについて触れながらご紹介したいと思います。
While we struggled with unfamiliar materials and laughed through the challenges, every moment spent in trial and error was filled with a fresh kind of inspiration—different from our daily work of etching ink into skin. Working with plants, a medium where there is no “correct” answer, and losing ourselves in the process of creation was a truly rewarding experience. It was a fruitful day, and every member felt a deep sense of joy in this unique creative journey.
Cherishing this fresh perspective, THE GOOD CAT SCRATCH will continue to push the boundaries and challenge new forms of expression.

花を単なる装飾としてではなく、空間や空気感まで含めた“彫刻的な表現”として扱うスタイルで知られています。
ロンドンでイラストレーションを学び、グラフィックデザインやファッション業界を経てフローリストリーへ転向。自然素材の不完全さや偶然性に魅力を感じ、静けさと動きを併せ持つ有機的な作品を制作しています。
これまでに Marni、Louis Vuitton、JOYCE などのブランドプロジェクトにも参加し、ファッション・アート・空間演出を横断するクリエイターとして注目されています。

Cherie Yip is the founder and florist of the Hong Kong-born floral studio, THE SPRING IS HERE.
She is renowned for a style that treats flowers not merely as decoration, but as “sculptural expressions” that encompass the surrounding space and atmosphere. After studying illustration in London and working in graphic design and the fashion industry, she transitioned into floristry. Drawn to the beauty of imperfection and the serendipity found in natural materials, she creates organic works that balance stillness with movement.
Having collaborated on projects for brands such as Marni, Louis Vuitton, and JOYCE, Cherie has garnered attention as a creator who works across the intersections of fashion, art, and spatial design. Her work is heavily influenced by architecture and minimalist design, characterized by a delicate touch that emphasizes negative space and the inherent texture of her materials. Today, she continues to expand her creative presence beyond Hong Kong, including the London creative scene.
